In 2020, we announced our first power purchase and community investment agreement. The agreement was a milestone in our “Infrastructure + Impact” mission, representing a groundbreaking strategy to leverage renewable energy generation to invest in under-resourced communities and communities disproportionately harmed by climate change. Our initiative has grown from five organizations based in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., to ten organizations serving various rural and urban communities. Like their predecessors in the program, our newest partners are focused on renewable energy, environmental justice, and job creation and training.

The Sustainability Institute (SI) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower the South Carolina Low Country region’s most vulnerable communities to achieve housing security, equity, and climate resilience. SI uses an innovative approach to provide access to home repairs and energy efficiency for families in economically disadvantaged and historically marginalized communities and provides workforce training efforts to create the next generation of conservation workers in the region. Our partnership will provide pre-weatherization and critical home improvements for households in under-resourced communities in Charleston County, South Carolina where high rates of energy poverty are found.
